Ben Venue (5th February 2004)

I made two mistakes on this walk, the first I went against my own rule and started out knowing the weather was atrocious with very little chance of getting better.
My second mistake, I went straight down the Loch Katrine side on the way back and took a wrong turn. I followed a small burn and ended up going down a quite steep gully.
I managed fairly well but my dog was struggling in the slippery conditions, at one point I went flying over a rocky surface on my posterior but landed unharmed about 6 foot down. Unfortunately there was no way back for me.
My dog managed to cross the burn where I slipped but refused to go any further, it was 5PM and it was starting to get dark. I had no choice I climbed down about 100 Ft before I could cross the burn then climb back up towards Nehemiah. I got to about 30 Ft away from Nehemiah when I hit a 5 Ft high piece of slippery rock, I manage to coax Nehemiah towards me and I was able to lift her down after that things got much easier.
I like walking up Hills to take pictures and enjoy the scenery, today was too much like rock climbing and I am getting to old for that. As for the dog if anything happened to her my better half would have murdered me.
