Route to Thurso

My wife and I set off to Castle of Mey on the Friday 23rd of August 2002 at about 9am. We decided to drive up the side of Loch Lomond to Tyndrum then go through Glen Coe. We stopped for a rest at the Three Sisters, and then carried on to Fort Augustus where we had a meal.
After driving up Loch Ness we then joined the A9 at Inverness. We stayed on the A9 to Latheron, and then the A836 to Wick where we originally intended to spend the night. However the journey went so smoothly we decided to carry on to Thurso.
We arrived at 6:15 pm and managed to book in at the Weigh Inn Hotel, the Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Thurso and close to Scrabster. After a meal at the Hotel we set off and had a walk round Thurso. The next day we visited the Castle of Mey.
The Castle inside was very homely and gave off a cosy feeling unlike other Castles. After this we went to John o' Groats and then made our way home stopping for a meal at the Loch Ness Clansman Hotel. There cant be many places to offer such splendid views while eating, I highly recommend it.

Alternative Routes are from Glasgow Join the A9 at Stirling or from Edinburgh join the A9 at Perth and stay on the A9 to Thurso.
